What’s Bakin’ Good Lookin’?

Eating is a sensual experience. One bite can bring indulgence, delight, surprise and pleasure. However, visual presentation sets the mood for appreciation, anticipation and excitement. Think about how many times you’ve blurted the phrase “that looks sooo good!” All top restaurants (and bakeries!) know presentation comprises a large part of satisfaction and that’s why today’s post is all about exquisite presentation.

The man above is Ole Kristoffersen, Owner and Master Baker at Lagkagehuset, a Copenhagen bakery known for an impeccable product and experience. Often, lines of eager eaters snake around the marble and dark wood establishment filled with breads, sandwiches, and a stunning myriad of tarts; the crown jewel of the pastry world.

The tarts above are not cakes and not pies – they are the glazed combination of fresh cut fruit adorning a perfectly moist pastry base. These gems of the desert world imply all the fuss and precision of cakes with a personal scale that says – “This is all mine and no cake knife is going to carve it into fractions!”

If you’re ever in Copenhagen craving pastries only to find the Danes don’t eat ‘Danishes’, one foot into Lagkagehuset will cure that with tart satisfaction. And don’t forget your camera because you’ll want to take it all with you.
