CHARGE YOUR GADGET WITH DIY SOLAR POWER

Even though Daylight Savings Time has recently made our lives a little darker (thanks, farmers), I still love solar power.

Running out of battery on a favorite gadget is one of my most frustrating moments. Because it’s all my fault. Why didn’t I charge it overnight? I ask myself. Why did I forget to pack my charger in this suitcase? Why don’t gas stations for gadgets exist? Why aren’t plugs in this airplane/car/bus? These are the questions that pain me in desperate moments like this.

Most solar power chargers are pretty pricey which mean someone had to come up with a hack. And hack they did. Electronics manufacturer Voltaic Systems shares how to turn an IKEA Sunnan solar lamp into a charging station for about $50.
