WHY THIS KID LOVES 3D PRINTERS

He had me at Leonardo DaVinci.

If you’re not already in love with 3D printers, prepare to get schooled by this squeaky-voiced kid in an oversized lab coat. While most children are spending their allowances on video games and comic books, he’s calculating how many years it will take to get his hands on the commercial 3D printer of his dreams — 10 to be exact.

Lucky for this kid  — and you — the open source community created the RepRap. Then the more reliable MakerBot came along. Combine these more affordable printing options with Thingiverse, the place to share digital 3D designs, and this young inventor will be busy until at least 8th grade graduation.

Excuse me while I begin printing my gothic cathedral. If I get too addicted to 3D printers I might need to upgrade to this giant version.
