Apparently nothing in life is over-done, over-used, or overly boring. Even blankets became cool again with a simple makeover. Give some everyday object or routine a new spin and suddenly you’re a modern day da Vinci. So what’s the next candidate for modern makeovers? Vending machines.
Japan took notes from the movie Minority Report, so don’t underestimate the glass window display of your favorite soda or junk food machine. It’s now a vertical see-through HD touch screen complete with facial recognition technology that will display custom ads depending on your sex and age. Kraft is taking these “smart” vending machines a step further. When their facial recognition technology discovers a customer is a kid, no ads – and no Jello – will be dispensed.
As if that wasn’t impressive enough, some Japanese vending machines are charging electric cars while others are shooting off free wi-fi for nearby customers. Now if only the insides of the vending machines got a makeover…
