Uber’s Next Ride

Despite a small PR kerfuffle over their “surge pricing” on New Year’s Eve, Uber car service continues to disrupt the taxicab industry in each new city it arrives in. The smartphone-based service offers customers a no-hassle transportation solution that does away with cash transactions, tipping, and cab hailing. But the biggest sell with Uber is that you’re not hiring a cab, but rather a “car”, which is city-speak for “ballers-only Lincoln Town Car”.

One problem. In 2010 The Ford Motor Company, who makes the Town Car, announced that they’re going to discontinue manufacturing the Town Car. Great, now what? Well the word around San Francisco is that Uber’s testing the Prius as a possible replacement. The Prius! Anticipating customers’ hesitation at pulling up to clubs in Prii (yes, that’s the plural for Prius), Uber is including champagne in the car for nighttime rides instead of the usual bottled water.
