DO U 3D?

3D printing that is. And if the guys at MakerBot are right, we’ll all be doing it in a decade. We’ve talked about the Thing-O-Matic before, but the 3D printing movement is picking up speed (to the tune of $10 million in funding).
To outsiders, it may seem that fanatics are only printing a pile of plastic thingamajigs. But as you can see here, there is purpose behind the plastic – a spaghetti measurer, camera handlebar mount, and chip clip (in the shape of an alligator) are just a few of the simple things you can print for free. Why run to Target when you can produce whatever you want at home with a little plastic thread? (It’s really that easy.) Suddenly the magnitude of 3D printing begins to set in.
And besides being awesome, MakerBot is already doing good on the side. Many hermit crabs have been dying due to the shortage of available shells in the wild. Thanks to Project Shellter, more than a few crabby creatures are rocking neon plastic printed protection. That’s what I call printing with a purpose.
