CAN FACEBOOK REPLACE YOUR PASSPORT?

Image via FB Bureau

Even if your Facebook account is on lockdown, you’ve already shared an obscene amount of information with the social network. What if one day Facebook was the final say on personal identity instead of the government? Goodbye, passports and drivers licenses. Hello, Facebook. At least one German man thinks Facebook ID cards are a possibility.

It may seem a little far-fetched, but the government is aware of the power of Facebook. ANIMALNewYork discovered that the Department of Homeland Security even scans the social network for key terms like “terror,” “hostage,” and “riot.” And the pure reach and structure of Facebook is an impressive display that could make even the government envious.

But whatever happened to inserting a microchip under our skin or scanning our eyeballs like in the movies? If we’re going to dream about the future of identity, I hope it’s something cooler than Facebook.

What do you think will be the future of identity? Tell us below or @WIREDInsider.
