IS “THE FANCY” PINTEREST FOR DUDES?

Pinterest. It’s a thing. The social pin board has taken the internet by storm, but now it’s not alone. The Fancy is another pinning site, but with an twist-companies can directly link their products and you can buy items directly from the site, turning The Fancy into a potentially powerful e-commerce site. But should you be leaving your pins and jumping on Fancy? Let’s weigh it out:
Pros
- Easy to pin-er, I mean “fancy”-things you like thanks to a little bookmarklet
- Seems to be (perhaps on purpose) more guy-centric, with everything from nice manbags to sexy ladies posted
- Able to buy stuff either directly or through links
- Potential for a “reverse Groupon effect”-brands can put out discounts on items which have been “fancied” a lot
Cons
- Not functionally all that different from Pinterest
- Visually, not as big and beautiful as Pinterest. Sure there’s a lot of dresses and wedding cakes, but you have to admit Pinterest is pretty
- Smaller population means less content
- Unproven model: it’s unclear if people want to be constantly sold to, or just inspired
