HOW TO STAY ALIVE AT SXSW WITHOUT A BADGE

[via @wired instagram]

Thanks to GeekDad’s handy Survival Guide, I’ve managed to experience SXSW without spreading myself too thin, going hungry, or being stricken with dreaded FOMO—and I’ve done it all without having an official badge for the conference.

If you’ve ever wanted to come to Austin in March, but were scared off by the whole badge thing, don’t be. There are tons of parties that don’t require badges. Those events are filled with the same people you’d meet at an official event or panel, and many of them serve free food and drinks. There’s even a collective of 2012 Badgeless attendees organized to bring those of us who’ve decided to go indie for this year’s festivities. But these GeekDad tips are universal:

  • Don’t plan on getting anything else done.
  • Change your plans as often as possible.
  • Recharge your devices where ever and whenever you can.
  • Talk to the people sitting/standing next to you.

One last word of advice: make sure you know where the free Red Bull is at all times.
