THE BUZZ APP OF SXSW 2012 IS…

Image via Highlight
I just landed in Austin for SXSW and feel like I’ve seen that person before-maybe he is my friend Bowman’s friend from college? Err no maybe that’s that guy I went to high school with who has lost a ton of weight??? That’s when I remember I have the Highlight app so I don’t need to rack my brain to figure out who I am staring at creepily.
Highlight is a Facebook-based, GPS-enabled app that runs in the background on your phone. When you’re near someone else who has Highlight, their profile shows up on your device, displaying mutual friends and interests between you, as well as their location and other info like Twitter handles. So far people seem receptive to being introduced this way, and I’ve already made a couple new contacts. But at SXSW, where roughly every third person you walk by is connected to someone you are, Highlight’s constant pinging is absolutely murdering my battery. Luckily, it can be muted.
This might just be one of those apps that works in a situation like SXSW. Would you throw this app into your daily tech routine? Tell us below or @WIREDInsider.
