SHOPPING GETS ENTERTAINING AND VICE VERSA
Video via TheCreatorsProject
Product placement isn’t new. Sometimes it’s damn helpful. Who doesn’t want an ice cold Coke after seeing Simon chug one on ‘American Idol’? The problem is sometimes you can’t buy the damn thing fast enough. That’s where this “interactive shoppable music video” comes into play. A project between Canadian designers SSENSE and a bunch of rappers I’ve never head of, the video is like any other music video, except you can click on almost any outfit shown on screen (via a tiny floating ‘S’, as in “Shop this look”). Doing so opens up an in-screen window that leads directly to a retail experience.
It’s convenient but a little intrusive. I want a big ‘S’ over a shirt I’ll pick up some Action Comics. Still, there could be something to it. How many times have I seen a great tie on ‘White Collar’ and Googled it to no avail? Imagine if we could buy literally anything in the video, from the cars, to the jewelry to the food? That’s worth watching.
