TUPAC IS ALIVE (SORT OF)

Call me old fashioned, but mortality is for the birds, what with cryogenics, stem cells, and holographic displays that can put dead rappers on stage at Coachella. Holograms have been awhile, but the recent “appearance” of Tupac Shakur at the sweltering summer music fest is probably one of the best artistic uses of the technology in awhile. Despite being incorporeal, ‘Pac rocked the house harder than even the non-holographic Snoop Dogg, who shared the stage with him. The hologram worked by projecting an image down onto a mirror, which in turn reflected it up at an angled screen, giving the appearance of dimensionality.

The whole performance was electric, so much so that it might go on tour. It’s a testament to Tupac that fifteen years after his death, he can still generate enough buzz to tour the country.
