Mark Dytham has always been drawn by the future potential of technology. Having grown up in a postwar British new town, he was always finely tuned to the contemporary moment. In fact, that’s what drew him to Japan in the late 1980s. Back then, Dytham was convinced that Japan was possibly the closest someone from England could come to actual time travel into the future. In Tokyo, he set up a forward-looking design firm and his entrepreneurial spirit eventually earned him an MBE medal (Member of the British Empire) from the Queen. Here he offers up unique perspective on the moment he realized technology was changing the shape of the world.
