DIY “LILY PAD” POOL WARMERS

Getting eager to jump into your pool even though the weather is not quite warm enough? Ditch the expensive pool heater and gross pool blanket, and grab some hula hoops. We’re making lily pads.
The science behind the lily pad pool warmer is such: the black polyethylene film absorbs light and reduces evaporation, so the pool not only stays warm, but stays more full. For the complete effect, fill about one-third of the pool with lily pads. Don’t worry – hula hoops are only a few dollars and the plastic is about $13 for 50 yards at hardware stores.
Be sure to wrap electrical tape around the seam of the hula hoops so they don’t sink. Also, use a razor blade to poke a few holes in the finished lily pad so air can escape as it floats on your pool surface. See the full how-to at MAKE.
