BETTER KNOW A MEME: OVERLY ATTACHED GIRLFRIEND

It started with a simple video, directed at a simple pop phenomenon. The Bieb made a call for submissions to promote his new fragrance, asking users to submit new lyrics to his song “Boyfriend” (that I certainly do not have on repeat on my iPod…). Seemed innocent enough. Enter Youtuber wzr0713. Her video is a terrifying masterpiece of stalker lyrics and don’t-you-dare-blink creepiness.
Shortly thereafter, Reddit picks up on the creep factor and, presto, the Overly Attached Girlfriend meme is born. What is it you see in those bulging, eager eyes? It’s your soul, trapped forever. Yikes.
