ZEN IN THE TIME OF ZOMBIES

Zombies. Non-organic tofu. Overly-attached girlfriends (link to Other post). There’s a lot of terrifying things out there to be, uh, terrified about. And the internet, with its fourteen second news cycles and hundreds of tweets per day, doesn’t do much to soothe the nerves.
But finally there’s a site specifically designed to be calm, quiet, and useless (thereby making it the most useful thing in awhile). Calm.com is simple. A looping background of a bucolic scene (choose from options like White Noise Beach or Bubbling Creak or Rustling Plain) accompanied by equally bucolic nature sounds. Select whether your little internet-powered Zone Out will be ten or two minutes long. Toggle on or off music and a soothing “guidance” coach. Hit Start.
It’s two (or ten) minutes of calm. It’s soma in HTML form. It’s beautiful. Just typing about it makes me more relaxed.
Now get out there and tweet about it.
