PLAYBOOK: RESEARCH FROM BOTH ENDS OF THE EXERCISE SPECTRUM

This week WIRED Playbook covers both ends of the exercise spectrum. It’s no secret that we Americans aren’t exactly leading the world in physical fitness. Playbook’s Beth Carter writes about recent research that suggests a drug could help people achieve healthier lifestyles by actually increasing the motivation to exercise. How? By reaping the benefits of performance-enhancing drugs while suppressing the harmful aspects.

But we don’t want to go too far. Another post by Ms. Carter looks at the long-term damage that endurance training may potentially cause. Too much of anything is bad for you, but at what point does exercise reach diminishing marginal returns? Do I run too much? Or just too far? Read on to the bottom of this one for some great suggestions on just what sort of exercise, and how much of it, you really need.
