RETHINKING DIGITAL PRIVACY

Image via WIRED

Is it even possible to remain anonymous anymore in this post-Internet, socially networked world? Starting with his business card, computer scientist Arvind Narayanan poses this question by simply stating, “Google me,” without any further data. But when you do Google him, what you’ll find is only what he wants you to find. A post-doctoral researcher at Stanford specializing in privacy and anonymity research, Arvind uses tools to carefully edit his online footprint. While you might find an embarrassing anecdote about the time he was jet-lagged and woke up with a bout of temporary amnesia, you won’t discover any career-ending, humiliation-inducing, blackmail-able party pics.

These days, digital privacy is redefining our concept of privacy making Arvind the World’s Most WIRED Computer Scientist. Learn more about Arvind (well, only what he wants you to know) and other leading technologists, through WIRED’s engaging new series presented by Cadillac. And, think twice before you tweet. Remember, you are what you tweet.
