THE MADNESS OF ZOMBIE PREPAREDNESS

Zombies. Still a thing. And just because the upcoming World War Z film is delayed to 2013 doesn’t mean we can let our guard down. No, sir. But what do you really need to be ready when the Time Comes? Avoid these pitfalls.

Firearms are overrated. The first thing most zombie survivalists think they need is firepower. A rookie might think something like this modified, nine-magazine AR-15 would make a great zombie killer. Wrong. According to the zombie survival guide, high-powered rifles aren’t ideal anti-zombie weapons because they’re loud, heavy, and require bullets, which are also heavy.

Instead, carry hand-to-hand weapons, like machetes and baseball bats. You don’t need things like these “zombie-specific” Ka-Bars. (Question: What makes them zombie-specific? Cool green handles? Because zombie killers are a style-conscious lot?) Your trusty Louis Slugger does the job and has the added benefit of letting you play post-apocalyptic America’s favorite past time.

Of course weaponry is almost the least of your warriors, so check out some survival guides. A zombie survival guide is pretty similar to a standard one for any disaster, but with the addition of ear plugs (to maintain sanity) and machetes (for clearing brush and ghouls). Romero DVDs optional.

What’s in your zombie kit?
