TEXT YOUR HOUSE ON (AND OFF) WITH WEMO AND IFTTT

Not only has the insanely handy IFTTT been given a fresh new update, the popular web automator can now complete tasks in the physical world as well.
Step 1: Get yourself set up with some of Belkin’s new WeMo devices. WeMo is a family of switches and motion sensors that plug into your home electronics. Once integrated into your home’s WiFi system, your WeMo system can be controlled from a smartphone, so that turning things on and off can be done remotely, or set to a timer. But here’s where it gets cool.
Step 2: Give WeMo the ability to interact with web apps through IFTTT. Simply activate the appropriate channels in your IFTTT account and you’re ready to start using IFTTT’s recipes. With IFTTT and WeMo, you can SMS your lights on. You can receive emails when motion sensors are tripped. Now all we need is something that will turn off my TV when I clap my hands…
