UberX — ONE STEP CLOSER TO REPLACING CABS
Here’s what I wrote when I applied for the private beta of Uber’s new “UberX” program:
“I’m interested in UberX because, while I greatly enjoy the simplicity and convenience of ordering a car from my phone, I do not care one smidge whether that car is a black towncar, yellow cab, or grey Prius. If there’s a cheaper way to use your service, I’m interested.”
Totally worked. I’m now a beta member of UberX in San Francisco, and have already used it successfully. What’s the big deal? Uber’s updated service options now come in three flavors instead of just one. Launch the app (Android/iPhone) and you’ll be able to select from UberX, Uber Black, or Uber SUV. They go from cheapest to priciest, and compact to SUV as you move up the spectrum. Uber says UberX can be as much as half the cost of Uber Black.
