LESSONS FROM A STARTUP GUY

Saying you’re a web entrepreneur that’s going to build a social news site, a travel planning site, then a web publishing site is a bit like saying you’re an architect who’s going to build a convention center, an international airport, then a printing factory. But in Reddit, Hipmunk, and Breadpig, Alexis Ohanian has managed to bring a core skill set to three disparate startups and make it work every time. His secret may be spelled out right on the cover of his new ebook: “Make Something People Love.”

Dubbed “The Mayor of the Internet” by Forbes, Mr. Ohanian has actually become more of an Internet Ambassador to the US Congress, working to fight SOPA/PIPA while engaging congresspeople and activating the massive Reddit community to have his back. He even holds the title officially as Y Combinator’s Ambassador to the East. At $3, these “lessons from a startup guy” are worth adding to this summer’s reading list.
