SAVING STAR WARS

As a Star Wars nerd, I’ve dreamed of visiting the galaxy far, far, away. And by that galaxy, I mean Africa and the various other movie locations that stand in for planets that don’t exist in the real world. Apparently I’m not the only one who’s dreamed about this.
One Belgian man named Mark Dermul decided he not only wanted to visit the sets, but he wanted to pen Star Wars travel guides about his trips to “Tatooine” and the like. After finding one crumbling set in the depths of the Tunisian dessert, he decided he had to save it: The Lars Homestead.
Dermul started a Facebook campaign, raised $10,000, and even got a blessing from LucasFilm. In May 2012, the renovations began. Read more about the ultimate DIY project over at GeekDad.
