THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE (TECHNOL)UGLY

Image via Mashable

Sometimes technology is used for amazing things like saving lives or transmitting important information around the world. And other times it’s used for idiotic inventions. Here are two examples that illustrate the good and the bad – also known as the (technol)ugly.

The Good

Holding a tiny computer in your hands is life-changing – until your smartphone battery dies. That’s why this super-slim charger is genius. It’s about the thickness of three credit cards and can easily fit into your wallet. There’s one catch: you need a USB port to actually charge your phone. But it’s cheap and easy to carry around so what have you got to lose?

The Bad

Hallmark knows kids like to text. So instead of just letting them get on with it, the greeting card company came up with Text Bands, a wireless wristband capable of sending messages. Let’s look at the facts: It can send 10 character-long messages. The wireless range is only about a foot. There are only 3 buttons to represent the whole alphabet. When you heard that Hallmark was getting in on the tech game, did you really expect much?
