SMARTER UPSTARTER’S TOP 3 FROM Y-COMBINATOR DEMO DAY

Y-Combinator held its daylong takeover of the startup news cycle last week for its demo event, and there are undoubtedly a few data-driven, enterprise-focused businesses in the group that stand to see a healthy exit someday. But those are boring. Here are SU’s three favorite out-there ideas in this summer’s Y-Combinator batch.

Bufferbox—The evolution of the PO box. Have your stuff sent to this big green box instead of your house, so that you never miss a delivery again.

Coinbase—Their pitch: “The easiest way to get started with Bitcoin”. Any company crazy enough to get in the Bitcoin business is a friend of Smarter Upstarter.

Double—Last and definitely not least. This robot that joins with your iPad and a Facetime-like service called OpenTok to create a rolling, remote-controlled (by another iPad) stick figure with a live picture of your face on top of it. Yes.
