FOR THE URBAN GARDNER

Living in Manhattan has a lot of advantages. Unfortunately, plenty of space and spare time are neither of them. Being a plant in my apartment would be a death sentence. Still, even polished city slickers want in on some of that hip urban farming from time to time.

That’s why Click to Grow Smartpots is so damn appealing. Even though it’s called a “smart” pot, it’s for dummies like me with more green than green thumbs. Put in a little plant cartridge (seeds are so 2004 B.C.) and the Click and Grow automatically nurtures the plant with water, air, and fertilizers in exact increments. The little box even tells you when to refill the water or change the batteries. Most plants available are herbs and such, so now you can tell your organic foodie friends that your salad is hyperlocal.

Hard work, right? Don’t worry, you can still wear overalls.
