HOW TO MAKE GOOGLE WORK FOR YOU

Image via Google

How do you Google? Say you’d like to watch Bill Clinton’s speech from last week’s Democratic National Convention. Would you type “Bill Clinton Convention Speech”? Or “Democratic Convention Clinton Speech”? Or just “Bill Clinton DNC”? All of these will get you what you’re looking for, but for me, only the last query brought up the YouTube clip of Bubba’s speech as the first result.

The truth is that most of us aren’t all that great at Googling stuff. Word choice obviously matters. But so does word order, and a whole host of other things I never even thought of. If you’ve always wanted to use the full power of the big G, they’ve got a free course for you called “Power Searching with Google”. Taught by one of their senior research scientists, the online tutorial takes you through the basics to make your searches more useful, so that you get the info you’re looking for faster. Organzing the world’s information is one thing, but you gotta know how to find what you’re looking for.
