A NEW MOBILE WORD GAME, FROM THE CREATOR OF TWEETIE

Good design sense is translatable. Porsche makes timeless, beautiful cars. But they’ve also successfully ported their style to hard drives, eyeglasses, and luggage. I’ve talked about the talented software and product designer Loren Brichter—he of the elegant and ubiquitous Twitter clients—here on Insider before. Having left Twitter at the end of 2011, Mr. Brichter took some time to try something new: a mobile game.

Letterpress is a new kind of Scrabble that requires not only vocabulary, but strategy. Each player makes words from the game-generated letter board. When you do, the letters you used are colored in with your player color: either red or blue. Choose letters adjacent to one another, and you’ll block those letters from your opponent. The player who “colors the board” first wins.

Letterpress is easy to learn, quick to play, and of course, lovely to look at.
