I spent a childhood filled with Mario, Luigi, Zelda, and Sonic, and I thank them for improving my fine motor skills. Video game lovers are known to tout the benefits of gaming, but now there’s something else we can add to our arsenal: old people.
It turns out playing video games makes senior citizens happy, healthy, and social. Non-gamers were negative and depressive but regular and occasional gamers seemed to beat the blues. It makes perfect sense to me – video games are fun, especially when you play with friends. Games relieve stress, improve confidence, and – nowadays – even make you sweat a little. The study searches for answers as to whether gaming improves mental health as well.
