The Magic of Cinemagraphs

A picture is worth 1,000 words (or at least 928.3, by my humble calculations). And with Tumblr and other blogging sites leaning towards less copy and more images, what is a gentleman to do? Don’t get me wrong, I love photography as much as anyone, but images can be so…static.

Enter the Cinemagraph, the refined, well-educated version of the GIF. Created by photographer Jamie Beck and motion graphic artist Kevin Burg, each cinemagraph is a tiny sliver of time and space captured in a digestible electronic format.

The cinemagraphs are like little moving paintings and take a tremendous amount of work to create. They remind of those moving paintings from the “Harry Potter” series. Not that I ever read those books.
