Build Your Own Star Wars Droid

Some people join book clubs, and others join the R2-D2 Builders Club.

A group of Star Wars nerds in the Bay Area have combined their two biggest loves: making things and R2-D2, and if you’ve attended Maker Faire Bay Area in the past 3 years, you’ve probably seen one of their custom creations zooming around.

Members reproduce life-sized versions of everyone’s favorite droid as well as other Imperial and Rebel droids including R4-M9, R3-A2 and R2-KT, a pink droid that has gained a bit of a fan following.

The official club site includes a DroidWiki, tutorials, and an FAQ to get you started. If Wednesday’s Star Wars day reignited your love for the legendary films, it’s the perfect time to channel that energy into building your own robotic companion.
