Happy Father’s Day to all the Geek Dads Out There!

What better way to celebrate Father’s Day here on WIRED Insider than with an interview with GeekDad himself? Check out his blog at WIRED here.

Describe the ultimate dream Father’s Day.

GeekDad: A day full of geeky family activities! We’d get out and play with our R/C aircraft (blimps anyone?!) or launch a camera on a kit to get some awesome aerial pictures. Then we’d head home for some co-op game play (Portal 2 is an AWESOME family game). We could make our dinner meal using the poor man’s sous vide (hot water in a cooler) and homemade ice cream using dry ice. Then, we’d have an evening watching awesome geeky movies like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings.

What does every geeky dad want for Father’s Day?

GeekDads are always drooling over gadgets and toys. The Switch Modular Pocket Knife is cool, because did can build his own perfect Swiss Army pocket tool. Every geeky dad who doesn’t have one yet wants an iPad2, and the Logitech Harmony One Universal Remote is great for the house where dad is the only one who knows how to run the home theater from the 7 separate remotes that came with all the components.

How can GeekDads turn their kids into GeekKids?

Don’t push. Just do the things you love, and make no bones about the fact that you’re having fun with them. Sooner or later your kids will want to join in, and when they do, welcome them with open arms!
