Ever take technology for granted? If you sit in a Ferris wheel, ride an elevator, use a telephone, watch a movie, or eat an ice cream cone, you can thank the inventors and innovators who contributed to World’s Fairs - it’s where all these modern must-haves premiered.

The World’s Fair is the epitome of all things futuristic and techy and has been since 1851. While the next expo isn’t until 2012 in South Korea, it’s never too late to get a little nostalgic and show some love to the timeless symbols of these cultural conventions’ pasts.

The Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Atomium in Brussels, and the Space Needle in Seattle are just a few of these iconic monuments built to represent the future. Read more about World’s Fair sites at BootsnAll.
