APPS FOR THE AUGMENTED REALITY TRAVELER
Being an edgy, hip blogger living in the heart of Austin has its downside; namely, that I don’t always have a ton of cash at my disposal (edgy haircuts are expensive!). So traveling for me has got to be both frugal and effective. Enter a couple of travel apps that take the augmented reality thread a bit further.
Augmented Reality Cinema is an app that allows you to view movie scenes that were shot right where you were standing. In London? Catch a clip from 28 Days Later. In Boise, Idaho?Well, you’re probably out of luck. But you get the idea.
Tour Wrist turns your device into a window to a whole different place. It’s really what the virtual reality craze of the 90s promised: pan around with your device and you see into another location. Tour Wrist’s developers have big dreams and eventually want to have Tour Wrist become a tool to “tour” anything, from cities to cars to dream homes and events. Now your tiny apartment can turn to a poolside bungalow with a wave of your phone. Pool boys optional.
